Racing Rules

The Rules for 2026

With everything we do in this series we prioritise fun, participation and inclusion.  This series is about getting in some good hard racing, improving individual fitness, but mostly about having fun and working with your own club-mates and other clubs during the market winter evenings.  The rules are here to help everyone enjoy the event in the right spirit.

1.  Riders either take part in their own Club, or can be allocated to the Barbarians Club.  Where clubs are concerned about having too few participants we can merge clubs.

2. Each Club must nominate a Team Captain who will co-ordinate their riders for taking part in the races.  Club Captains also co-ordinate with each other. for the scheduling of head-to-head races.

3. Riders will be referred to by their Zwift username.  To help Captains, Riders are encouraged to make their Tri Club clear as part of their Zwift username.

4. Riders are expected to ensure their weight, age and gender are correctly set up in the Zwift profile, as the scoring system automatically extracts this data from the Zwift results.

5. Riders do not need to commit to a minimum number of races to participate in but will earn points for their clubs when they do.

6. The series will start with a Mass Race.  In this race, each rider will be granted a point for completing the race, and a further point for each rider they finish ahead of.  Female riders receive a bonus score, and riders in each Zwift Age category also receive a bonus to their score with older (veteran) riders receiving a larger bonus.  Under 18 riders also receive a bonus.

7. The scores from the Mass Race will be used to seed Clubs and set up the league tables.  The scores from the Mass race will also be used for each Club in the final results calculation - so it is a good idea to get as many riders as possible in the first Mass Race.

8. Thereafter, each week, Clubs will be allocated fixtures against other clubs.  The Captains will agree the specific day and time of the race and the Home Captain will set up the Race Course.

9. All races (except the Grand Finale) will be over a 10-mile course but any terrain can be chosen by the Home Captain.

10. In the Head-to-Head Races Team Captains must place their riders in Teams of 6.  Note, that with the bonus points system, frequently older and female riders or junior riders will score more highly than faster riders, but Captain are free to make up teams however they choose.  The make up of teams can change from week to week.

11. Once the races have taken place, an online results sheet will be published and Captains will be required to check these sheets and make sure the Teams are correctly recorded.  At the end of each week an updated set of league tables will be published

12. The series will finish with a Grand Finale in which all readers will be invited to participate.

13. The winning Club will be announced at the end of the Series, with the winners being invited to a special event and prize.

14. All riders are asked to note that no bad language will be permitted or tolerated in any group communications or during Zwift races using the chat function - please note that young riders may be participating.

15. Where young riders are participating, they are free to use their Zwift user names if they wish to shield their identity.
